Get the Balayage look: the latest trend in hair color!

It’s not a new trend.  In fact, balayage and ombre color have been around since ‘07/’08 .  But, this “ombre effect” – aka balayage or grown-out highlights has been big news with celebs recently!

Everyone from Rachel Bilson, Jessica Biel, Lauren Conrad, and recently….Courtney from “Most Eligible Dallas” seems to be hooked on this lazy-girl’s guide to good hair.

Why is Balayage such a great trend?

The two-tone hair color gives your hair a sun-kissed look all year round.  Although it seems like a hot look for summer, it can also brighten up your tone for the dark winter months.

It’s a great “non-committal” way to throw some light tones on a brunette.  This technique definitely flatters darker hair.  But, blondes….have no fear Sienna Miller and Lauren Conrad are perfect example of dipping there ends a shade lighter to deepen the starting color for a real POP!

The illusion of thicker hair!  Because this technique creates more texture, it makes the illusion of thickness.

Is Balayage only for the longer locks?

It is obviously recommended to consult with your stylist, but check out this look we love.

Where does the term “balayage” originate?

Balayage is a French word meaning “to sweep.”

*Tip : when consulting with your colorist, hair should always be darker on the base and root area, and light towards the ends.

Is this a foil technique?

No!  Your colorist will use a brush or paddle to make a sweeping motion.  This makes for a less precise, more natural look.

Should I schedule today?

YES! You'll thank us later.

Balayage in French means 'sweeping' as a gerund. 'To sweep' is balayer.
